The CCAA Executive Council steering committee, on behalf of the entire executive council and with the unanimous support of all 12 directors of athletics, has voted to institute a forfeiture policy for the 2021-22 season.
Starting this fall, contests cancelled due to a COVID-related circumstance will result in a forfeit by the team that caused the cancellation. The canceling team will receive a loss in the conference standings and the opponent will be awarded a win. Contests cancelled due to COVID will not be made up under any circumstances. Contests that are forfeited will be considered “no contest” when reporting to the NCAA and thus, will not impact a team’s overall record.
“The challenges we face this year are still quite substantial and there are simply not enough available opportunities to consider rescheduling these games due to the complexities of the situation,” said CCAA commissioner Mitch Cox. “Our hope, of course, is that this is a policy that will not need to be put into action at all this year, but we need to be prepared just in case.”
The league will follow NCAA-led rules and regulations regarding participation and minimum requirements for championships with the goal of conducting traditional fall, winter and spring seasons.
The CCAA forfeiture policy will only apply to league standings, conference seedings and conference tournament participation. A CCAA forfeiture will have no effect on selection for NCAA championships, player statistics or coaching records.
