Cal State LA's Morten Bjoershol has been voted the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches. (Dec. 13)
The senior defender was an anchor on the backline all season for the Golden Eagles, and especially in Cal State LA's run to the 2021 NCAA Division II Championship. Cal State LA allowed just two goals in five playoff matches, including zero in the semifinals or championship matches.
The two-time CCAA Defender of the Year led Cal State LA during the 2021 campaign with six goals and four game-winners. He scored the only goals in 1-0 wins at Sonoma State and home against Cal State San Marcos. The Golden Eagles never lost a match where Bjoershol scored during his four years (12-0).
Bjoershol is Cal State LA's second straight national Player of the Year. Goalkeeper Alexander Brems was the first after helping the Golden Eagles reach the national championship game in 2019.
Bjoershol completes his storied career as two-time All-West Region Defender of the Year and a three-time All-American. During his four seasons, Cal State LA went 66-11-13 (.806 winning%), winning three CCAA Tournaments, two CCAA regular-season titles, and reaching two NCAA Division II Championships.
