National Top 10 Marks for Smith, Togiai Lead to Weekly Honors

With Top 10 national performances from Jazmine Smith and Gracious Togiai, the duo has been tapped for CCAA Track & Field Athlete of the Week for April 15-21, respectively.

Smith, a senior from Sacramento, recorded three provisional marks this past weekend at the stacked Mt. Sac Relays. She took fifth in the 400 meters turning in the seventh-fastest time in the country and the second-best time in Gator history, at 54.28 seconds. Smith shined in the relays as well, running the fourth-best time in the nation in the 4x100 meters as San Francisco State finished in 45.83 seconds for the third-best mark in program history and returned in the 4x400 with another provisional mark at 3:37.65. The result in the 4x400 is the second fastest in the country as well as the No. 2 time in the school record books.

Hailing from Hayward, Togiai destroyed the Stanislaus State women's shot put record with a throw of 15.34 meters (50-feet-4) on Saturday at the Beach Invitational en route to weekly honors. The freshman now ranks No. 8 in Division II, breaking the school record set last year of 45-7 1/4 by Ally Milone. Togiai also bettered her own PR by nearly six feet with the effort for the Warriors while taking 10th in the event.

Both the Gators and the Warriors close the regular season at this weekend’s Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Cal. Then, squads from across the league head to La Jolla for the 2019 CCAA Track & Field Championships May 2-4 on the campus of UC San Diego.
