Cox, Beattie Shine for Weekly Honors

Stanislaus State’s Petrice Beattie and Claudia Cox from UC San Diego have been selected as CCAA Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Feb. 25-March 3.

Beattie, a senior from Vallejo, turned in the current top high jump mark in NCAA Division II, winning the event on her home field at the Kim Duyst Invitational with a height of 1.69 meters. The very busy athlete also had three other top six finishes including a third place finish in the javelin (33.16 meters) and a personal best from the shot put circle, as well as spins around the track in the 100 meter hurdles and 4x100 meter relay for the Warriors.

On the track, Cox swept both hurdle events in rainy conditions at the Beach Opener to claim her second weekly honor of the season. The junior from Greenville, N.C., took first in the 400 meter hurdles with a provisional qualifying time of 1:00.46 good for four-best in Titons history. She also placed first at the 100 meter hurdle distance, completing the race in 14.53 to edge teammate Caroline Page by one one-hundredth of a second for the win.

Tritons are also slated to compete on their home track at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge this weekend, while Stanislaus State enjoys a week off before heading to the Nornet Invitational March 15-16.
