Women's Track and Field Mar 19, 2019 Anthony, Eshiet Capture Event Wins En Route to Weekly Honors After securing NCAA provisional qualifying marks over the weekend, Chico State’s Nicole Anthony and Gabby Eshiet of UC San Diego have been tapped as CCAA Track and Field Athlete of the Week for March 11-17, respectively. Anthony, a senior from Castro Valley,, scored her provisional time on the way to winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase at Saturday’s Hornet Invitational in Sacramento. Anthony’s newly-minted personal best time of 10:51.09 not only earned the first provisional mark by the Wildcat women’s team this season, it currently stands as the fastest NCAA Division II steeplechase performance thus far 2019. The effort also puts Anthony in the Chico State record books with the seventh-fastest steeple time in the program’s history. Eshiet, a junior from Chico, also earned an event win en route to a provisional mark. Her throw of 48’ 1.25” (14.66 m) won the shot put at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Scoring Meet hosted by Point Loma over the weekend. The toss also stands as the second-best in Tritons’ program history. This weekend, Chico State returns to the capital for the Sacramento City College Jamie Nieto Invitational and UC San Diego competes at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State.
