ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - An unbeaten start and five consecutive shutouts have lifted Cal State LA to No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Soccer national rankings. (Sept. 17)
 
The Golden Eagles jumped seven spots from No. 8 to claim the top position, continuing a rapid climb through the national poll. Cal State LA is 5-0-0 and has outscored its opponents 8-0. The Golden Eagles opened with wins over Concordia and Vanguard before adding three consecutive 1-0 victories against No. 20 Regis and regional foes Biola and Westmont. Abraham Ramirez has played all 450 minutes in net without allowing a goal. He has 17 saves and has faced 41 shots. Jose Mariscal leads the Golden Eagles with five points. He has already recorded two game-winning goals and assisted on another. Seven different student-athletes have accounted for Cal State LA's eight goals.

Cal State LA's rise continues the CCAA's recent presence atop the national rankings. Stanislaus State men's soccer and Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer each held the No. 1 position last fall, while Cal State San Marcos softball reached the top spot in February.
 
The Golden Eagles will put their perfect record on the line when they host Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m., before traveling to Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday, Sept. 20, for a 2 p.m. match. Both matches will be available on FloCollege.
