SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Day 1 of the 2026 CCAA Women's Track & Field Championships presented by Pollo Campero is in the books with some standout performances.
It was a battle for the gold medal in the pole vault between Chico State's
Janey Rubio and Cal State San Marcos'
Danielle Patrick. After both vaulters cleared 11-10.5 (3.62m), it was just them going head-to-head for the title. Each would clear the next two heights, with Patrick even setting the CSUSM school record at 12-8.25 (3.87m). That would prove to be the winning jump as Patrick cleared the height on her first attempt to win her first career CCAA Championship.
Cal State LA's
Kailea Satterwhite reclaimed her discus championship with an NCAA Division II provisional mark of 159-2 (48.52m). After taking a one-year hiatus from the team, Satterwhite returned to the Golden Eagles and took back her discus championship, which she had first won in 2024. She won the event by over 10 feet and earned 10 team points for Cal State LA.
Chico State racked up 29 points in the women's 10,000-meter as Wildcats claimed the first four finishers.
Iresh Molina repeated as the CCAA Champion, posting a time of 36:16.67 to finish ahead of
Megan Malloy (36:17.68),
Kira Forsberg (36:22.07), and
Jasmine Fletcher (36:46.02). She is only the second individual since 1999 to win back-to-back 10k championships.
Neshara Smith earned a gold medal for Cal Poly Pomona by winning the long jump with a distance of 18-10.75 (5.76m), edging out
Julia Carmona (18-8.5/5.70m) by 2.5 inches. This all came while Smith was also competing in and leading the CCAA heptathlon.
Smith currently has 3166 points after four completed events, in which Smith has won three and taken second in the other. The senior from Bakersfield won the 100m hurdles, the shot put, and the 200m. She took second in the high jump. Smith is now just 1423 points away from the NCAA provisional standard with three events remaining. This is the first time Smith has competed in the heptathlon this season.
Laila Florvilus from Chico State is currently in second with 2741 points, and Cal Poly Pomona's
Esme Pounder is in third (2685).
Day two of the CCAA Track & Field Championships will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1.
