UC Merced’s Zamaya Rivera has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 19-25.

The freshman midfielder from Hollister, Calif., led the Bobcats with three goals across two victories, helping UC Merced remain in contention for its first-ever CCAA Tournament appearance. Rivera totaled six points and put five of her eight shots on target while coming off the bench in both matches.

Rivera opened the week with her second career brace in UC Merced’s 3-0 victory over Menlo College on Thursday. She scored twice, including the game-winning goal in the 48th minute, to help the Bobcats secure the conference win.

She followed with another goal in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Cal State San Marcos, finding the back of the net in the 62nd minute against a Cougars team that had entered the match with three consecutive shutouts. Rivera finished with four shots in each match, recording five shots on goal over the two victories.

The two victories improved UC Merced to 9-2-5 overall and 6-2-4 in CCAA play. The Bobcats have 22 conference points and are tied for fifth in the standings with Chico State, keeping their postseason hopes firmly in their own hands. UC Merced will close the regular season at home Thursday, Oct. 29, against San Francisco State at 11 a.m. The CCAA Tournament quarterfinals are scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 1, with the top seven teams advancing.
