The CCAA proudly bestowed the
Dr. Hal Charnofsky Memorial Award upon two student-athletes at each CCAA member institution for the 2024-25 academic year. The recipients have distinguished themselves in the classroom and their sport.
The 24 award recipients ranged from freshmen to graduate students. Eleven of the 13 conference-sponsored sports were represented on the list. The Charnofsky Awards also saw student-athletes from many different academic disciplines, including Biology, Energy Systems Engineering, Psychology, and multiple Master's degrees.
"This award acknowledges the accomplishments both on and off the field these student-athletes have achieved," said
CCAA Commissioner Allen Hardison. "The late Dr. Charnofsky was a dedicated faculty member at Cal State Dominguez Hills who truly valued the student-athlete experience, and we are proud to continue to honor his legacy with this annual award."
Each individual was chosen by their athletic department for their efforts as a true student-athlete representing their school and the CCAA to the highest athletic and academic performance standards.
Hal Charnofsky graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Los Angeles in 1949, and he went on to play at USC with his twin brother Stan, where both would earn All-America honors. He would go on to earn a stint with the Yankees before returning to California and becoming a faculty member at Cal State Dominguez Hills. He helped found the Sociology department at CSUDH and was the coordinator of the master’s degree program in marriage, family, and child counseling from 1980-2002.
