Chico State advances to double-elimination portion of the 2025 CCAA Baseball Tournament

LOS ANGELES  - Chico State earned its first win in the CCAA Baseball Tournament presented by FloCollege since 2019 with a 5-3 victory over Cal State LA on Wednesday, May 7.
 
Troy Kent got Chico State started with a solo home run in the first inning, before Daniel Vierra extended it to 2-0 with a solo shot of his own in the second.
 
Pitcher Rocco Borrelli (5-3) was the beneficiary of the early support as he went out and threw five innings of one-run baseball. He allowed only three hits and one walk, striking out three as Chico State built a 4-1 lead with Borrelli on the mound.
 
Marco Ibarra would provide three innings out of the bullpen (two runs) before Tyce Ochs closed the door by striking out the side in the ninth for his first save of the season.
 
Phoenix Casias had three hits to lead Chico State. Leadoff hitter Thade Miller and Michael Baker added a pair of singles apiece. First baseman Casey Vogan drove in three runs. He extended Chico’s lead with a two-run single in the top of the sixth before adding an insurance run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
 
Cesar Chavez led the Golden Eagles’ offense, going 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Both his RBI came after the sixth inning, bringing Cal State LA back within two runs each time. Alberto Prado was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
 
Chico State advances to the double-elimination portion of the 2025 CCAA Baseball Tournament presented by FloCollege. It will face the No. 1 seed, Cal State Monterey Bay, on Thursday, May 8 at 11 a.m.
