Otters fall to Nighthawks to end season in the NCAA Super Regional

[Box score]

NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 7-3 on Friday night to end the Otters' season in the NCAA Super Regional.

Nighthawks' starting pitcher Cole Calnon improved to 11-0 as he lifted NNU to its first NCAA West Region Championship. Calnon went 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and one run. He gave way to a bullpen, which got him out of a jam in the sixth inning and proceeded to throw two more scoreless innings before yielding a pair of runs in the ninth.

NNU gave Calnon an early lead to work with as they scored first in the top opening inning (NNU was the designated visitors). The Nighthawks would never trail in the 18 innings of the series.

CSUMB would tie up the game in the third inning on a two-out, RBI-single by Jacob Dressler. NNU took back the lead in the fifth on a two-run, opposite-field single by Bryan Rojas, who would finish the game 3-for-5.

The Otters had their chances as the innings moved along to cut into the lead. They placed multiple runners on base in the fifth, sixth, and ninth innings, but they would not break through with any runs until the final inning.

The game was still only 3-1 going into the top of the ninth, before NNU rallied for four insurance runs to extend its advantage to 7-1. All four runs would score with two out. Gavin Brubaker had the big hit of the inning with a two-run triple.

Max Farfan and Dominic Felice each had a pair of hits and scored a run for CSUMB. Nick Maestas drove in both ninth-inning runs.

This completes the 2025 season for Cal State Monterey Bay (39-19).
