Cal State Monterey Bay drops the opener of the Super Regional

NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene scored four in the second inning and added a six-run fifth to earn a 14-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay in the first game of the 2025 NCAA West Super Regional.
 
The top two hitters in the Nighthawks' order, Nin Burns II and Bryan Rojas, combined to go 6-for-11 with a double, a triple, two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs scored. They fueled each of NNU's two big rallies with timely hits.
 
In the second, Burns II had a two-out RBI single before coming around to score on a triple by Rojas. Then, in the fifth, Burns II extended the lead to 10-0 with a two-run homer. Rojas would add a three-run homer in the eighth. NNU outhit CSUMB 16-4.
 
Ernesto Lugo-Canchola earned the win to improve to 12-0. He went seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and five walks. He struck out five. Jakob Rochelle pitched the final two innings, allowing no runs while striking out four.
