Westmont 3, San Francisco State 2 [Box score]
San Francisco State could not overcome PacWest Champions, Westmont, on their home field and fell 3-2 in the NCAA West Regional.
David Eichhorn had a really good start for the Gators as he went 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits and just an unearned run. He walked three and struck out four.
SF State took a 2-1 lead in the third inning when they rallied against PacWest Pitcher of the Year Ryan Humphreys. The first three batters of the inning reached base before
Daniel Murillo brought in the tying run on a sac fly, and
Nicholas Allred doubled in the go-ahead run.
In the seventh, the Warriors were able to get a rally of their own going after getting Eichhorn out of the game with 100 pitches thrown. With two outs, Zach Mora still stood on first after his leadoff single. Bryce McFeely doubled him in to tie the game before coming around to score what would be the game-winning run on a single by Trey Dunn.
SF State would have chances to tie the game in the eighth and the ninth as it put its leadoff runner on both innings, but both times, Westmont's closer Zach Yates was able to work out of trouble without allowing a run.
Humphreys improved to 12-1 on the season, and Yates earned his 13th save. Humphreys finished the game with 11 strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. He allowed five hits and two runs. Yates went the final two innings for the save.
Stephen Espinoza and
Nicholas Allred each had a pair of hits for SF State. Dunn went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base for Westmont.
The loss eliminates SFSU from the NCAA West Regional. Westmont will advance to face Cal State Monterey Bay in a best-of-three series starting Friday at Noon.
