BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Cal State San Marcos' Madison Murr had already put together an outstanding collegiate career, highlighted by a regional championship and multiple CCAA Golfer of the Year awards, but on Thursday, she made her name legendary within the conference by winning the 2025 NCAA Women's Golf Individual Championship. (May 15)

Murr became only the second women's golfer in the history of the CCAA to win the prestigious honor, and she did it by three strokes on the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. The native of Los Alamitos, Calif., entered the final round with a five-shot lead after posting a tournament-low of 8-under (64) in the second round. She closed out the tournament by registering five birdies to shoot a 69 (-3) and finish with a 14-under par 202.

It was Murr's fifth win in nine tournaments during the 2024-25 season, including the CCAA Championship. She placed second in three of four other tournaments. Murr is only the second CCAA women's golfer to win an NCAA Championship, joining CSUSM alum Jaime Jacob (2019).

Her efforts helped Cal State San Marcos finish second at the NCAA Championships with a 15-under 849. Regan Barton matched Murr with a 69 (-3) in the final round to move four places up the leaderboard and finish in 13th place. Kiara Hernandez went 1-over (73) in the last round but still finished under par for the tournament (215, -1) and placed 25th. Diana Delgado went 2-over (74) in the last round of stroke play, and Makenna Cabardo finished with a 75 (+3).

The efforts of all five golfers helped Cal State San Marcos advance to the match medal play portion of the NCAA Championships for the first time in their careers. The Cougars are one of eight teams (out of 18) that will advance. CSUSM will open match medal play on Friday, May 16, at 7:40 a.m. against No. 7 seed Central Missouri.

Cal State East Bay finished 12th with an 875 (+11). The Pioneers posted a 285 (-5) in the first round, a 299 (+11) in the second, and a 291 (+3) in the third. They entered the day in eighth place, but 10 teams shot under par, and CSUEB finished 12th on the final leaderboard. Torrie Bowman had an outstanding final round, shooting a 68 (-4) to climb eight spots on the individual leaderboard and finish with a 213 (-3).
