Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Nigel Buckley was selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Baseball Player of the Week for March 31-April 6.

The freshman catcher hit .625 in a four-game series against defending conference champions Cal State Monterey Bay. He went 10-for-16 with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, and five runs scored. Buckley completed the series with a .647 on-base percentage and a 1.125 slugging percentage. He posted multi-hit performances in all four games.

Buckley got the series started right for the Toros as he went 2-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBI. His three-run homer in the fifth inning got CSUDH back within one run (4-3). They were still down one in the eighth (6-5) when Buckley hit a grand slam to turn the one-run deficit into a three-run lead (9-6). He would record three-hit performances in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader and close out the series by going 2-for-3. The Toros split the four-game set against the Otters.

Buckley is now tied for fifth in the CCAA in batting average (.391) and third in doubles (12). Click here to see CCAA baseball stats leaders

The series split kept CSUDH within two games of first place. It also remains three games up on three teams tied for third place. This weekend they will host one of those third-place teams, Chico State (14-10), in a four-game set starting on Friday, Apr. 11.
