GOLETA, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay Pioneers are the 2025 CCAA Men’s Golf Champions! CSUEB overcame a nine-stroke, second-round deficit by firing a 1-under 287 in the final round to win the CCAA Men's Golf Championships presented by Under Armour by four strokes.
Cooper Groshart claimed the 2025 Individual Championship with a par on the final hole and finished with a 1-under 215. He opened the tournament by shooting a 72 (E), then posted a 73 (+1) in round two before closing with a 70 (-2). Groshart was down one stroke heading into hole 17. He parred each of the last two holes to become only the second Pioneer ever to win the CCAA Men’s Individual Championship (Adam Stone, 2016).
Groshart was one of three Pioneers to shoot even-par or better in the final round.
Oscar Blomqvist matched Groshart on the last 18 holes by posting a 2-over 70. He tied for second in the tournament with a 216 (E).
Peyton Hendricks registered an even-par 72 for his best round of the tournament.
Easton Hether provided the final qualifying score with a 75 (+3) as the Pioneers posted their low round in the three-day CCAA Championships presented by Under Armour, and finished with an 880 (+16).
Second through fifth place would be decided by just five strokes.
Cal State Monterey Bay held a nine-stroke lead going into the final 18 holes. The Otters posted their highest score in the last round with a 300 (+12) to allow the Pioneers the opportunity for the comeback. CSUMB still claimed a top 2 finish for the third consecutive season with an 884 (+20).
Wilhelm Berg Von Linde led the way, finishing sixth with a 220 (+4).
Colin Huang and
Tommy Kimberling tied for eighth with 222s (+6).
Sonoma State shot a tournament-best 280 (-8) on Wednesday to finish in third place, just one stroke back of CSUMB. Ivan Sablan led the charge with a tournament-low 66 (-6). He finished tied for fourth with a 1-over 217 to earn all-tournament recognition.
Ryan Stewart (69, -3) and
Cambron Nevill (72, E) also had scores of even-par or better in the last round.
Nick Friedman completed the scoring with a 73 (+1).
Cal State San Bernardino finished fourth with an 888 (+24).
John Kim tied for second place with an even-par 216. He stormed up the leaderboard on the final day by shooting a 70 (-2). He held a one-stroke lead on the back nine, but Groshart overcame him with two late pars to edge out the reigning CCAA Player of the Year for the Individual Championship.
Chris Wardup placed seventh with a 221 (+5).
Chico State took fifth place with a 889 (+25).
Travis Miller claimed a top 10 finish as he shot a 222 (+6) to tie for eighth.
Stanislaus State placed
Chris Chomyn on the all-tournament team as the senior shot a 217 (+1) to finish tied for fourth. The Warriors placed sixth with a 902 (+38).
Cal State San Marcos (922, +58) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (938, +74) rounded out the field.
With the win, Cal State East Bay claims the conference's automatic bid to the West/South Central Regional, which will be held May 9-11 at the Victoria Club in Riverside, Calif. The other teams will await their postseason fate on Friday, April 25, when the NCAA reveals its selections at 2 p.m. on
NCAA.com.
