Schaeffer pitched seven scoreless innings in relief, leading to two Pioneer wins and Cal State East Bay taking three of four in the series from No. 11 Chico State. The Reno native earned a four-inning save in the opener when he allowed no hits and struck out seven. Then, in the series finale, he went three innings, allowing three hits and no runs to earn the save. The right-handed reliever is now 1-0 with a 3.09 earned run average over seven appearances. The series win moved Cal State East Bay into a tie for third place in the CCAA standings at 7-5. The Pioneers will return to Hayward this week to host CCAA leaders Cal State San Bernardino (11-5) in a four-game set starting on Friday, Mar. 21.
