GREENWOOD, Ind. - Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at Cal Poly Pomona, has been named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 Class, a national honor recognizing some of the most innovative and impactful young professionals in college sports communications. For Kline, the recognition is a significant milestone in a career defined by creativity, leadership, and a passion for telling the stories of student-athletes. Reflecting on the honor, he said, "I am proud to be recognized as a recipient of the CSC 30 Under 30 Award. Being part of a university and a community that value both excellence and growth has been a constant source of inspiration."

Since returning to his alma mater in September of 2023, Kline has played a pivotal role in transforming the digital and communications footprint of Cal Poly Pomona Athletics. In his position, he oversees all aspects of sports information and communications for the university's 11 athletics programs, while also serving as the primary media contact for volleyball, cross country, women's basketball, and baseball. His work includes managing coverage on BroncoAthletics.com, producing graphics and digital content, overseeing social media strategy, and leading a team of student staff responsible for game-day operations and live streaming. Cal Poly Pomona Athletic Director Brian Swanson praised his contributions, saying, "Alex is a dedicated professional who takes great pride in his work, our department, and Cal Poly Pomona. Alex is highly creative and continues to be on the cutting edge of design and technology. Alex is certainly deserving of this award, and we look forward to him continually moving our program forward."

Kline's leadership has significantly elevated the Broncos' digital presence, helping CPP Athletics become the only NCAA Division II program on the West Coast with more than 10,000 Instagram followers. One of his most notable accomplishments was overseeing the launch of the department's redesigned athletics website in January 2024. Working in partnership with SIDEARM Sports, he led a comprehensive redesign that improved navigation, refreshed visual identity, and expanded the department's storytelling capacity. His commitment to showcasing the legacy and excellence of Cal Poly Pomona Athletics was evident during the CPP women's soccer team's run to the program's first-ever national championship in December 2024. While traveling with the team to Matthews, North Carolina, Kline delivered national-level media coverage and coordinated multiple interviews with ABC, ensuring the historic moment reached audiences far beyond campus.

His creative contributions have earned recognition at the national level as well. In April 2025, Kline was named a CSC Designer of the Year Finalist for the College Division, finishing seventh nationally and ranking as the top designer on the West Coast among non-Division I institutions. Admired across the California Collegiate Athletic Association for his dedication to excellence, CCAA Commissioner Allen Hardison commented, "Alex is innovative, multidimensional and stays at the forefront of the ever-evolving role that our CSCs play. It is always a pleasure working with him and I look forward to watching his career continue to blossom." Echoing that praise, CCAA Director of Communications Danny Barnts added, "Alex's talent was apparent from the moment he started working in the conference. However, what sets him apart is that he has never settled and instead pushes himself to be better in all aspects of the job. He has a wide variety of skills, including being a fantastic communicator, and he strives to utilize these talents every day for Cal Poly Pomona and the student-athletes."

Kline attributes his success to the mentors and colleagues who have shaped his journey in athletics communications. "I'm deeply grateful for the mentors who have guided me, the peers who have challenged me, and the opportunities to tell the stories that make college athletics so special," he said. He added heartfelt thanks to those who played key roles in his career: "Among the many colleagues, friends, and family who have supported me throughout my professional journey, I'd especially like to thank Ben Rosehart at CUI for introducing me to the sports information field, Dr. Chelsea Herman for giving me my first role in this industry, Brian Swanson and Pamela Donnelly for their continued support and leadership at Cal Poly Pomona, and my wife, Ashley, for her unwavering love and encouragement."

In addition to his work at CPP, Kline continues to contribute to the national athletics communications landscape as a member of College Sports Communicators, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and as the West Region Coordinator for D2CCA Baseball All-America. The CSC 30 Under 30 honor only fuels his drive to keep growing and innovating. As he stated, "This recognition inspires me to keep learning, keep serving our student-athletes, and continue contributing to the legacy of Cal Poly Pomona Athletics." With a history of outstanding achievements and a dedication to advancing collegiate athletics, Alex Kline is positioned to make a lasting impact on the future of sports communications both on the West Coast and beyond.
