COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The magical season for the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team ended in the NCAA Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 loss to Florida Tech.

The Broncos controlled the pace of play throughout the first half, including putting three shots on goal in the first 11 minutes, but could not find the net. Vanessa Cruz had the best look in the early sequence as she outmaneuvered two defenders for a left-footed shot from 20 yards. Her shot had good power, but the keeper got a hand on it and knocked it out of play. The match would go to halftime tied at 0-0.

Five minutes into the second half, FTU broke the scoreless drought. Savannah Oxley found Sara Batchadji open on a cross. She took one dribble in and hit a strike into the far right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

CPP would get other chances, including a header by Cruz that hit the post and a shot by Marisa Salazar that was just outside the net in the final minutes. CPP ended the match outshooting FTU 15-6, including 5-3 in shots on goal.

Florida Tech's Kaitlin Sinkler made five saves, and CPP's Jenna Tetrault had two.

Cal Poly Pomona had not given up a goal in the first four matches of this postseason. The Broncos had also won nine consecutive NCAA playoff matches dating back to last season.

Florida Tech will now advance to the NCAA Championship match where it will face Franklin Pierce on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. PST.

Cal Poly Pomona concludes its season at 18-3-3.
