POMONA, Calif. - Pomona defeated Humboldt 1-0 in the battle of the Cal Poly's in the first round of the NCAA West Regional. (Nov. 21).
Kiarra D'Arcangelo scored the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute. She received a pass from
Abria Smith and lined up the shot from 22 yards away into the right side of the net.
The Broncos had been peppering the goal all half with eight shots, forcing Humboldt's keeper,
Carson Thomson-Terrel, to make four saves. CPP's offense would keep that pressure on in the second half with eight more shots. Cal Poly Pomona finished the match outshooting Humboldt 16-4.
The victory avenged the Broncos' loss last week in the semifinal round of the CCAA Soccer Tournament, in which they lost to the Lumberjacks 1-0.
Cal Poly Pomona, the defending NCAA Champions, will advance to the next round to face Simon Fraser on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m. Cal Poly Humboldt completes its season with an 8-6-8 record and its first CCAA Tournament Championship.
