SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt prevailed in penalty kicks, 4-2, over Cal State San Bernardino to advance to the semifinals of the 2025 CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, presented by FloCollege.
Neither team wanted to see their season end, especially the defenses. Both put up 110 scoreless minutes before the match turned to penalty kicks to determine the advancing team.
Each team made their first-round shots, but in the second round, the momentum swung to Humboldt as
Payton Heaney made her shot, before CSUSB's shot sailed high. The third round was a reversal, as Humboldt missed its shot and Leslie Aldape made hers to tie the penalty kicks back at 2-2.
Nicole Beauchemin made the Lumberjacks' attempt in the fourth round, before another Coyotes' shot went over the crossbar, giving Humboldt the one-shot lead heading into the final round.
Alexis Blue sealed the victory with a shot to the top right corner of the goal. CSUSB's keeper
Ryann Munoz got a hand on the shot but could not deflect it away from the goal as it found the back of the net, giving Humboldt its second tournament advancement in the past three seasons.
Cal State San Bernardino outshot Humboldt in the match 22-17, including 7-4 in shots on goal.
Ariana Beddoes and
Carson Thomson-Terrel split time at keeper for Humboldt. Thomson-Terrel had four saves, and Beddoes had three. Munoz made four stops for the Coyotes.
Cal Poly Humboldt will advance to the semifinals of the 2025 CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament presented by FloCollege in Seaside, Calif. It will face the No. 1 seed, Cal Poly Pomona, on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
