POMONA, Calif. - Noel Soto added to his CCAA Tournament legacy by hurling another outstanding game for the Broncos in the postseason. The senior right-hander went 7.1 innings to lead No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona to a 10-3 win over No. 2 Cal State San Marcos.

The Broncos' offense backed Soto with a six-run third inning and continued to add on throughout the game. AJ Nimeh and Darius Price drove in two runs in the inning before Nick Lugo capped off the inning's scoring with an RBI single to the shortstop.

With the six-run advantage and the way Soto was dealing, the Broncos felt to be in control of the game. Soto did not give up more than one base runner in any inning before the seventh. Luke Reece homered to lead off the seventh and end the shutout, but Soto bounced back with three quick outs to end the seventh inning.

Two of the three runs he allowed came after Soto exited the game and both inherited runners came around to score. Soto finished the game throwing 7.1 innings while allowing six hits and three runs. He walked only one and struck out four to improve to 8-2 this season. He has now gone 16.1 innings in the past two championships, allowing only 10 hits and four runs while earning two wins.

Nimeh drove in three runs, and Lugo had a team-leading three hits. Jack Sanders, Price, and Lugo each recorded two RBIs. CPP outhit CSUSM in the game 12-8.

Luke Reece's 3-for-4 performance led Cal State San Marcos. He was the only Cougar to record a multi-hit game.

Cal Poly Pomona will advance to the winner's bracket of the 2024 CCAA Baseball Tournament. The Broncos will face the No. 1 seed, Cal State Monterey Bay, on Friday, May 10, at 3 p.m., and the winner will advance to the championship game. Follow along through the CCAA Network at CCAAnetwork.com.
