POMONA, Calif. - Kyle Olimpia's 10th-inning sacrifice fly gave No. 4 seed San Francisco State a 10-9 win over No. 2 seed Cal State San Marcos in an elimination game of the 2024 CCAA Baseball Tournament. (May 10)

The Gators fell behind by as many as four runs late as the Cougars rallied for five in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead. SF State continued to chip away at the deficit with one run in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the eighth. However, CSUSM also added single runs in the eighth and ninth to take a 9-6 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

Derek LaFerriere and Olimpia singled to lead off the inning. AJ Schrader brought in LeFerriere as the first run of the inning and moved Olimpia to third on a single to right. Anthony Alvarez brought in Olimpia with a sac fly to make it 9-8 with two outs.

Cole Thompson, who had entered the game to run for Schrader, stole second base to get into scoring position. Leadoff batter Armando Murillo then delivered the game-tying hit on a single up the middle to knot the score at 9-9.

The Gators' bats returned to work after Mickey Radanovich (4-1) pitched a perfect top of the 10th to earn the win. With one out, on an 0-2 pitch, Justin Johnson singled to left. LaFerriere followed it with a single to right-center field to move Johnson to third base.

Kyle Olimpia came to the plate with pinch runner Nicholas Cook on third base. He lifted the third pitch he saw to Victor Castaneda in right. Castaneda got under the ball and delivered a strong throw home, but it went just up the third base line, forcing the catcher off the plate. Cook was able to avoid a swipe tag from the catcher to score the game-winning run.

Johnson went 3-for-6, including a three-run homer in the bottom of the third when the Gators took their initial lead. That lead would hold up until the Cougars' five-run seventh. LeFerriere also had three hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Schrader came into the game as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and collected a pair of hits and RBIs.

Luke Reece led Cal State San Marcos by going 3-for-6 with a home run and two runs scored. He was one of five Cougars to record a multi-hit game.  Phoenix Sommay drew a late walk to extend his on-base streak to 41 consecutive games.

San Francisco State will move to the next round, where it will face the losing team between No. 1 Cal State Monterey Bay and No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona. The games are available to watch at CCAAnetwork.com.
