Cal State LA’s Owen Hunt snags his second career CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor after pitching a three-hit shutout on Saturday.
Hunt limited Cal State East Bay to just three singles in a seven-inning complete game victory as he led the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 series win at home at Reeder Field. He struck out eight, walked three and hit a batter in the outing. Hunt threw 115 pitches and faced 29 batters in the gem. It was his second career shutout and sixth career complete game.
The senior from Folsom, Calif., kept getting himself out of trouble in five of seven innings during the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. He walked two batters in the first inning, but stranded both runners. Cal State East Bay left a runner on base in each of the second and third innings. Hunt also stranded two runners in the fifth. His best stretch in the game was when he retired 8 of 10 batters with six strikeouts.
Hunt is currently sixth in the CCAA with an opponents’ batting average of .236.
