Stanislaus State’s Tony Jacob quiets the Coyotes as he has been selected as the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of Feb. 26-March 3.

Jacob allowed just three hits and tossed a seven-inning complete game over Cal State San Bernardino, helping the Warriors to a doubleheader sweep on Friday. The rest of the four-game series in San Bernardino were canceled due to weather.

The senior left-hander from Acton struck out seven batters and walked four in the outing. He gave up just two unearned runs in the seventh inning in Stan State’s 6-2 win. After allowing a double and a walk to start the fourth, Jacob escaped the jam by striking out the side. He then would retire six of the next seven batters before the final frame. With two out and two on in the seventh, he appeared to have the shutout until the left-fielder dropped a flyball to allow two runs to score. Jacob fanned the final batter to preserve the victory.

This is Jacob’s first career pitcher of the week award and the Warriors’ first since March 10, 2020 when Ryan Tinsley took the honor, just before the pandemic shut-down the season. Click here to see the history of CCAA Baseball weekly award winners.
