Daniel Vierra of Chico State hit four bombs in three games en route to being voted as CCAA Baseball Player of the Week, for the week of March 18-24.
Vierra went 8-for-13 (.615) with a 2.244 OPS — 1.538 slugging and .706 on-base percentages. He was a run producer, belting four home runs to drive in nine runs, and scored eight times. Additionally, he reached base twice on walks and twice was beamed by a pitch.
In the three Chico State wins, Vierra started at first base and also moved behind the plate on Saturday. He went 2-for-6 with a homer in game one and followed it with a 2-for-4 nightcap, where he also hit a two-run jack. Chico State scored 29 runs in the Saturday twinbill. In the Sunday series finale the junior from Whittier went 3-for-3 with a 2-run shot in the first and a solo dinger in the eighth.
In three games, Vierra’s batting average jumped from .250 to .328. He has now been hit by a pitch seven times this season, which is tied for sixth most in the conference.
