Chico State’s Kevin Lyons has been selected as CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of March 18-24, after a shutout outing.
Lyons threw seven scoreless innings against the conference’s second best hitting team on Saturday, helping the Wildcats to a 14-0 win over Cal State LA. The Golden Eagles (now with a team batting average of .323) scattered nine hits against Lyons, but did not score. In fact, Lyons didn’t allow a baserunner past second base.
The senior right-hander from San Diego struck out five and walked one in his 96-pitch outing. Lyons, who improved to 4-2, yielded to Nolan Meredith in the eighth as the two pitchers combined for the shutout.
Lyons is fourth in the CCAA with a 3.57 ERA and is tied for second with four wins. He has allowed just 14 earned runs in 35.1 innings this season.
