Benny Olguin of Cal State San Bernardino has been tabbed as the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week after tossing eight shutout innings on Sunday.

Olguin took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and allowed just two hits without a run in eight innings of work as the Coyotes beat Cal State LA, 9-0, in the series finale. The victory helped CSUSB secure a much-needed 3-1 series win over the Golden Eagles.

The senior right-hander from Alhambra, Calif., gave up three walks in the first five innings but escaped every LA rally. He took the no-no into the sixth until yielding consecutive singles. Olguin induced a double-play and a fly out to end the inning before retiring six of the next seven batters (gave up another walk). In all he struck out four batters and threw a total of 90 pitches.

Olguin improved his personal record to 2-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to CCAA-leading 0.59. He leads the CCAA in opponent’s batting average (.189), fewest hits allowed (20) and runs allowed (6). He has given up just two earned runs in 30.1 innings this season.
