Garrett Teunissen selected as CCAA Baseball Player of the Week as spark plug of CSUSM offense

Garrett Teunissen of Cal State San Marcos is picked as CCAA Baseball Player of the Week, after leading the Cougars’ offense last weekend.

Teunissen batted .600, going 9-for-15, with a 1.678 OPS during a busy four-game series at home against Cal State San Bernardino. He sparked the CSUSM offense to score 42 runs en route to taking three of four games from the reigning West Region champions. Teunissen had four extra base hits with two doubles, a triple and a homer. He drove in seven runs and scored eight times during the series. 

The junior third baseman from Corona, Calif., also reached on base with a walk and was hit by a pitch once. He collected two sacrifice bunts and a sac fly plus stole three bases on three tries.

Teunissen now leads the CCAA with seven sac bunts and shares the lead with seven stolen bases. Click here to see CCAA baseball stats leaders.

This is the first career CCAA Player of the Week award for Teunissen and the first CSUSM player to win the award since before the pandemic stoppage. Click here to see the complete list of weekly award winners.
