Cal State San Bernardino’s Benny Olguin opened the year strong on the bump as he picked up the season’s first CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week award.

Olguin threw five no-hit innings in the Coyotes’ 4-1 win over Colorado Christian as reigning West Regional champs swept the three-game set over CCU.

The senior right-hander from Alhambra struck out seven and allowed three baserunners via walks en route to the no-decision. He left the scoreless game after retiring 12 consecutive batters after 57 pitches. Olguin walked two batters in the first and started off the second with a walk but was perfect after that.

A key arm out of the bullpen, Olguin made five starts during the 2023 campaign and posted a 8-0 record with two saves. He was victorious on the mound in the Coyotes’ NCAA quarterfinal win over Rollins.

Cal State San Bernardino, which was ranked No. 4 in a NCBWA preseason poll, hosts Central Washington in a four-game series this week.
