Luke Hempel of Cal State San Bernardino’s gem earns him CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor

Cal State San Bernardino’s Luke Hempel has been picked as the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of Feb. 12-18, after throwing a gem on Saturday.

Hempel threw seven shutout innings and gave up just two singles in CSUSB’s 13-2 win at Biola. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter to improve his personal record to 2-0. 

The senior right-hander from Glendale retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced, including striking out seven of the last 10 Eagles. From the fourth inning on, Hempel retired the side three times and yielded just a harmless single in the sixth.

Cal State San Bernardino improved to 7-3 and will travel to San Francisco State to begin conference play this weekend.
