Noel Soto of Cal Poly Pomona has been named the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of Feb. 5-11 after a stellar outing.

Soto threw six shutout innings in Broncos’ 10-2 win over Azusa Pacific on Friday as Cal Poly Pomona took three of four games against the Cougars. The senior right-hander allowed just three singles, struck out eight and walked two in his first start of the season.

Soto, who is from Lakewood, did not allow a baserunner past first base. On three occasions, he prevented APU from starting rallies after allowing one-out singles.

Azusa Pacific, which was picked to finish second in the PacWest, was a West Regional participating team in 2023. The Cougars are now 2-6 after games against Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal Poly Pomona.

This was Soto’s second career CCAA Pitcher of the Week award. He had picked up this honor on April 11, 2022 after a 9-inning complete game shutout over SF State.

Cal Poly Pomona will take its 3-1 record to Santa Barbara to take on defending NAIA national champion Westmont in a four-game set starting on Thursday. Westmont is in its first season in the PacWest.
