Cal State LA wins CCAA matchup in Super-Regional; CPP falls in Texas

Cal State LA scored more goals against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday than in the teams' previous three meetings combined to win the matchup of two CCAA teams in the Super-Region 4 quarter, 4-1.
 
After falling 1-0 to the Toros in the semifinals of the CCAA Tournament and 3-0 in the final match of the regular season, the Golden Eagles broke through with the playoff victory.
 
The first half was scoreless until the final two minutes when Erick Alamo's pass got Ignacio Moreno into open space for a 2v1. He took one touch and sent it past the keeper for his first goal of the season.
 
After halftime, the net seemed to widen for No. 5 seed Cal State LA as it matched its highest-scoring half of the season. Emil Kischka scored the second goal in the 51st minute when he was able to dribble through a pair of defenders and send the ball out from 20 yards.
 
Oscar Warne provided the third goal off a series of nifty passes from Rene Cortez and Diego Bravo. Alamo got his second assist when Jacob Solek registered the Golden Eagles' fourth goal in the 82nd minute.
 
Jose Peredia broke up the clean sheet for Cal State LA in the 88th minute after Kenny Lee found him open for a shot at the top of the box. It was Peredia's fifth goal of the season.
 
This was the sixth consecutive season LA has earned at least one win in the NCAA playoffs.
 
The Golden Eagles will now advance to the Super-Region 4 semifinals, where they will face Colorado State Pueblo on Sunday, Dec. 1. Cal State Dominguez Hills' season concludes at 10-5-6. The Toros were the CCAA regular season and CCAA Tournament Champions.

No. 7 seed Cal Poly Pomona fell to the No. 2 seed Midwestern State in the 2024 NCAA Super-Region 4 quarterfinals.
 
Gabriel Gacovicaj scored the first two goals for the Mustangs and Mere Escobar added the third.
 
Gacovicaj broke up the scoreless match with a goal in the 24th minute. He added his second in the 53rd minute on an assist from Escobar. Escobar tacked on a goal of his own as insurance in the 82nd minute.
 
MSU outshot CPP 9-2 in the first half and 21-10 in the match. The Broncos entered the contest, outshooting their opponents nearly 3-to-1.
 
Midwestern State will advance to the Super-Region 4 semifinals, hosting Fort Lewis on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. PST. This concludes the season for Cal Poly Pomona, which finishes the year 13-2-7, and it is the CCAA regular season champions for the first time since 2018.
