CCAA celebrates 50th anniversary of NCAA Division II

Aug 7, 2023

The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to be part of NCAA Division II, celebrating its 50th anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. Division II was established in 1973 as a home for colleges and universities to provide athletics scholarships, the flexibility to pursue unlimited academic paths, and interactive community engagement to give student-athletes a balanced experience they can make their own.

Division II is kicking off a campaign to celebrate its 50th anniversary, releasing a logo to mark the occasion and announcing details about the effort. The division was founded Aug. 6, 1973, when NCAA members voted to reorganize into three divisions at a Special Convention. When the split occurred, 193 schools in 13 conferences chose to become founding Division II members. Complete NCAA Division II release
