NCAA Division II honors the CCAA as a Founding Member Conference

Aug 29, 2023

The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) was named a Founding Member Conference of NCAA Division II as part of the organization's 50th anniversary celebration.

Twelve current or former CCAA member-institutions had the honor of being listed as a Division II Founding Member. The current CCAA members include Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State East Bay, Chico State, and San Francisco State. UC Davis, UC Riverside, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, and Chapman were among the former members. Click here to see the complete list

Since being established in 1938, the CCAA has been affiliated with the NCAA. It was there on Aug. 6, 1973, when NCAA members voted to reorganize into three divisions at a Special Convention. When the split occurred, 193 schools in 13 conferences chose to become founding Division II members, and the CCAA was among them.

The conference is one of just six remaining from the inception of Division II, and the NCAA has honored the conference with an exclusive logo available only to its Founding Members.
