Stanislaus State capitalized on a couple of first-inning errors to put two runs on the board and continued to add on to earn an 11-2 win over Cal State East Bay in an elimination game at the 2023 CCAA Baseball Tournament.
After the first batter reached on an infield single, the next two runners reached on errors to load the bases with no out. The Warriors pushed two across the plate in the first and tacked on another in the second when leadoff hitter
Robert Valdivia tripled in a run with two out. This was the first of seven two-out RBI the Warriors would have in the game.
A two-run homer by
Mac Cabero and an RBI-double by
J.D. Madrigal extended the lead to 6-2 after the top of the third. The Warriors tacked on three more in the top of the fifth in support of their starter
Tony Jacob, as Valdivia doubled in two and then scored on a double by Kyle Rachels.
Jacob completed the fifth inning before coming out of the game. He allowed just one hit and two runs over five innings to improve to 4-4 on the season. He surrendered six walks and struck out five.
Cabero finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Valdivia finished a home run shy of the cycle, reaching base four times with three RBI. Madrigal was 4-for-5 with three doubles. Nine of the Warriors' 14 hits went for extra bases.
Samuel Esparza had two of the four hits for Cal State East Bay.
Stanislaus State (27-23) will play No. 1 seed Cal State Monterey Bay in the double-elimination portion of the tournament on Thursday, May 11 at 9:30 a.m. Cal State East Bay concludes its season at 27-24.
