Cal State Dominguez Hill’s Julian Diaz has been named the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of April 23-30.
Diaz threw eight strong innings in the Toros’ game one win over Chico State on Saturday, helping CSUDH to a doubleheader sweep and staying in the hunt for a postseason tournament berth.
The junior from Hawthorne yielded just three hits in eight shutout innings. He struck out eight without issuing a walk. He faced the minimum number of batters in the first three innings before the Wildcats got a hit in the fourth. After that, Diaz retired the next 11 batters before allowing another single. Diaz struck out two batters in the eighth before exiting with 103 pitches.
Among the CCAA leaders, Diaz is third in runs allowed with just 21 in 46-plus innings. He’s also tied for third with just 45 hits allowed.
Cal State Dominguez Hills wraps up its regular season schedule on the road at Cal State San Bernardino. The Toros, now 16-20 in CCAA and 1-½ games behind sixth place, are looking to return to the CCAA Tournament.
