SF State’s Kody Gardner has picked up his second CCAA Baseball Player of the Week award, this time for the week of March 27-April 2.

In four games at Cal State LA, Gardner went 7-for-14 (.500) and slashed .929/.588/1.517 to lead the Gators to a 3-1 series victory over the Golden Eagles. The senior left-handed batter hit for the cycle in the series with four singles, a double, a triple and a homer. Gardner drove in seven runs and scored five times to power the SF State offense, which outscored LA 38-12 in the series.

The first baseman from Sacramento had at least a hit in each game with three two-hit games during the series. Gardner also drove in multiple runs in three of four games. In 17 plate appearances, he walked three times and only struck out twice. His best game during the series was actually the one game the Gators lost. In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Gardner went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run (his fifth of the season) and drove in two runs. He also walked twice in the contest.

Gardner was the player of the week on Feb. 13 after hitting .563 with three home runs during a Saturday twinbill at UC Colorado Springs. He now ranks fourth in the CCAA in slugging (.650) and sixth in OPS (1.083). He’s also ninth with 27 RBI this season.

San Francisco State (16-11, 9-10 CCAA), which moved up to sixth in the standings, will host Cal State San Marcos this weekend. The Gators are 8-3 at home so far this season.
