Nico Hartojo of Cal State Monterey Bay led the Otters to another offensive weekend to earn the Baseball Player of the Week award for the week of April 17-23.
Hartojo batted .533, going 8-for-15, with two home runs, drove in six runs and scored four. He drew a walk and was hit twice for a .611 on-base percentage. With a .933 slugging percentage, Hartojo tallied a 1.544 OPS.
The junior first baseman/pitcher from Arvada, Colo., led the CSUMB offense which outscored Cal State Dominguez Hills, 38-21, to win the series 3-1. CSUDH took game two of the series, 13-12 in 10 innings, on Saturday. It was during the extra inning game that Hartojo went 3-for-6 with four RBI. His solo homer, part of a back-to-back with J.J. Engman in the fifth, gave CSUMB a 7-4 lead. He also went 3-for-5 with a dinger in game one on Friday.
Hartojo leads the CCAA with a .430 batting average. He’s second in on base percentage (.591) and third in slugging (.640). His 1.159 OPS is second best in the conference.
Cal State Monterey Bay travels to take on Cal State LA in Los Angeles this weekend.
