CPP’s Caleb Reyes shutout opponents to earn Baseball Pitcher of the Week award

Caleb Reyes threw a gem on Saturday in helping the Broncos pick up a series split on the road, earning him this week’s Baseball PItcher of the Week honors.

Reyes threw seven shutout innings in Cal Poly Pomona’s 5-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader. Reyes and teammate Matt Orozco combined for the shutout. 

A senior righty from Encino, Reyes gave up four hits, struck out seven and walked none in his first start of the season. He stranded base runners at second base on three occasions and retired nine of the final 11 batters he faced.

Reyes (1-0, 0.00 ERA) has yet to yield a run in 14 ? innings pitched this season. He leads the CCAA in ERA and ties for first in opponents batting average (.104). He now has 19 strikeouts in 14 innings.

Cal Poly Pomona hosts Biola on Tuesday and will remain home for a four-game set against Cal State Monterey Bay this weekend.
