CCAA honors Chaunte Mitchell and Joel Stallworth with their Hall of Fame awards

Mar 30, 2023

The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) had the privilege to present Chaunte Mitchell and Joel Stallworth with their CCAA Hall of Fame awards at the Kim Duyst Invitational on Saturday, Mar. 4

With friends, family, and fans looking on, CCAA Commissioner Mitch Cox presented a personalized CCAA Hall of Fame Award to each inductee. Their former coaches, Kim Duyst, Troy Johnson, and Tom Brenda, joined the ceremony to welcome Warrior legends into the exclusive CCAA Hall of Fame. That evening, Mitchell and Stallworth were also honored and recognized on the court during the CCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

Chaunte Mitchell was a two-time NCAA National Champion pole vaulter and a five-time All-American. She was named the 2003 CCAA Freshman of the Year before picking up three conference pole vault titles. Mitchell was a pioneer in pole vaulting, as she became the first woman in NCAA Division II to capture back-to-back outdoor titles. She is one of three women at any NCAA level to win back-to-back national championships in the outdoor pole vault. Her mark of 13-5.25 inches still stills atop the Stanislaus State record books. She was inducted into the 2018 USTFCCCA Hall of Fame.

Joel Stallworth was a three-time All-American on the track for the Warriors. He was named West Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2006 and West Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2007. Stallworth never lost a race in which he competed at the CCAA Championships (three titles). Over 15 years later, he still holds the school records in the 200-meter and the 400-meter. Stallworth moved on to represent the United States in the 2008 IAAF World Championships in Spain, where he received a gold medal as a member of the winning 4x400 meter relay team.

Mitchell and Stallworth help comprise a CCAA Hall of Fame that features only 41 inductees, even after the introduction of seven new members in 2023. Click here to learn more about the CCAA Hall of Fame
