A big game led to series lead as Yotes slugger Giovanni Del Negro has picked up this week’s CCAA Baseball Player of the Week award, for the week of March 6-12.
Del Negro helped CSUSB bounce back with a twinbill sweep on Sunday with a big offensive game in the nightcap. The junior went 2-for-3 with a double and a three-run homer to drive in all five runs in the 5-0 victory. Negro, an outfielder from Rancho Cucamonga, also walked once in the game. He doubled down the left field line to score two runs for a 2-0 lead in the fifth. In the seventh of a short-game, Del Negro blasted a three-run shot to center for the 5-0 lead.
In all in three games so far in the series, Del Negro batted .444 with a 1.000 slugging percentage and on-base percentage of .643. He also drew two walks and was hit by a pitch in the first game on Sunday after reaching on a walk, to go with two hits, on Saturday.
The Yotes and Stanislaus State will complete the four-game set Monday at Noon after the series was shifted a day due to weather. CSUSB returns home to host San Francisco State this weekend.
