Ryan Platero of Cal State Monterey Bay has been named the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for his solid start on Saturday at Stanislaus State.
After weather pushed the start of the series and changed the schedule to two doubleheaders, Platero set the tone for the Otters with a great outing in the 8-0 opener win. The junior right-hander threw six innings and allowed just four hits without yielding a run. He fanned six and walked two Warriors en route to his first win of the season.
Platero, who is from Hollister, got out of a jam in the fourth and left two runners on base. After that point, he retired seven of the next eight batters, ending with a backwards-K to end his outing in the bottom of the sixth.
The No. 29 ranked CSUMB Otters took three of four games from Stanislaus State to begin CCAA play.
Cal State Monterey Bay is scheduled to host San Francisco State this weekend, starting on Friday at 2 p.m.
