SF State’s Kody Gardner powers Gators to earn Baseball Player of the Week nod

San Francisco State’s Kody Gardner had a tremendous weekend at the plate, especially on Saturday, as he’s been selected as the CCAA Baseball Player of the Week.

Gardner went 9 for 16 for a .563 average and belted three homers with two doubles and drove in 11 runs to slash a 1.250 slugging percentage. He also scored nine times, walked once and was hit by a pitch once while only struckout twice in 18 plate appearances for an on-base percentage of .611.

Saturday was his big day during the Gators’ doubleheader at UC Colorado Springs. The senior first baseman went 5-for-8 with three homers, a double and 8 RBI during the twinbill split. Gardner homered in the first game, a three-run shot in the third to give SFSU a 5-0 early lead. In the nightcap, his solo shot in the third tied the game and a three-run blast in the fourth gave the Gators a 9-4 lead they never relinquished.

Gardner, who was 1-for-5 in Friday’s series opener, went 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI in Sunday’s finale as San Francisco State won the series 3-1.

SF State returns home to host a four-game series against Colorado State-Pueblo this weekend.
