Cal State East Bay’s Gabe Tanner threw a complete game shutout to earn this week’s Baseball Pitcher of the Week Award.

Tanner picked up the 7-inning version of the complete game win on Sunday in the Pioneers’ 6-0 win over Central Washington. The victory secured a doubleheader split on the day.

The sophomore right-hander from Danville allowed just two hits and struck out nine in his second start to improve to 2-0 on the year. Both CWU singles came in the third inning. Tanner then retired 12 of the last 13 batters in the final four innings.

In two outings, Tanner has fanned 16 batters in 12 innings without yielding a run on three hits.

Cal State East Bay and Central Washington play another twinbill on Monday to complete a five-game series. CSUEB hosts Academy of Art for three games next weekend.
