Chico State’s Austin McFarlane threw a one-hit shutout, earning him the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the final week of May 2-8.

McFarlane fired the one-hit shutout in the Wildcats’ 2-0 win at Cal State East Bay Friday afternoon. The sophomore, who is a senior academically, made his final regular-season start in a Chico uniform his best yet, striking out five in the seven-inning game.

The hurler from Danville, retired the first 10 batters he faced, and after walking three in a row with one out in the fourth, got out of the jam by retiring the next five Pioneers to keep the game scoreless. After yielding a single to start the sixth, McFarlane sat down the final six batters in order for his second complete game.

McFarlane struck out five in the outing and faced just 25 batters. The Pioneers batted .048 against him.

Chico State, which is serving as host of the CCAA Baseball Tournament, May 11-14, is the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 6 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday.
