Saturday's winner-take-all game went to Azusa Pacific as the Cougars defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 12-9 in the NCAA West Regional.

Azusa Pacific hit five home runs to help them defend their home field and earn a spot in next week's NCAA Super Regional.

Cal State Monterey Bay's only lead came in the third inning when it rallied to score four runs. A two-run double from Jason Ajamian capped off the rally, giving the Otters the 4-3 lead.

A solo shot by Casey Dykstra in the fourth tied the game and started a string of eight unanswered runs for Azusa Pacific. Spencer Rasmussen's triple in the fifth gave APU the lead, and Omar Lopez hit a two-run homer to make it 7-4. A four-run sixth inning extended the Cougars' lead to 11-4.

Amajian broke the scoring run with a solo home run in the seventh. He would add a three-run homer in the eighth, giving him five home runs in the four games of the NCAA West Regional. That home run brought the Otters to within three runs at 12-9.

Azusa Pacific turned to its game one starter AJ Woodall to close the game. He got the final out in the eighth and worked around a one-out single in the ninth to record his first save of the season.

Amajian finished the day 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, six RBI, and two runs scored for CSUMB. Aaron Roose and Casey O'Laughlin knocked in three runs apiece for APU.

Azusa Pacific will advance to the Super Regional to face Point Loma next weekend in San Diego.
