Scott Ogrin's bat came alive with his team's back against the wall. The first-team All-CCAA infielder launched a grand slam in the third inning and added a solo shot in the fifth to help lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 12-3 win in the elimination bracket of the 2022 CCAA Baseball Tournament.
Ogrin's first home run put the Toros up 4-2 and his second extended the lead to 5-2. It was his 23rd home run of the season which set a new program record and is the most by any CCAA student-athlete since 2007. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two home runs, two walks, six RBI, and two runs scored.
Orgin's game was not the only impressive performance on the diamond as Cal State Dominguez Hills' starter Humberto Chiquito went seven strong innings in his longest start of the season. The sophomore right-hander allowed seven hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out five. Both runs off Chiquito came in the second innings, and from that point, he allowed just one runner past second base.
Cal State San Bernardino's Kyle Csakan went deep in the game for this 21st home run of the season to temporarily match Ogrin for the conference lead.
Orgin's two home runs and six RBI both match CCAA Tournament single-game records.
The victory moves Cal State Dominguez Hills into the CCAA Tournament Championship. They will face Cal Poly Pomona at Noon. The Toros must defeat the Broncos twice on Saturday to claim the championship.
