Will Rudy of Cal Poly Pomona earns his third Baseball Pitcher of the Week award

With another dominant outing, Cal Poly Pomona’s Will Rudy has earned another Baseball Pitcher of the Week award, this time for the week of April 11-17.

Rudy needed just 87 pitches to throw eight full innings without allowing a run in the Broncos’ 9-0 win over Stanislaus State last Friday night. The freshman from Irvine yielded two hits and struck out three with a walk to improve to 5-1.

After walking the first Warrior he faced, he retired 15 consecutive batters and faced the  minimum through five innings. Rudy got out of a jam in the sixth with two Warriors on base and retired eight straight batters to end his eight-inning performance.

Rudy was the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 28-March 6 after a 12-strikeout gem against then-No. 14 Chico State. He earned the top pitcher of the week award for March 21-27 after another 12-K outing against Sonoma State.

Rudy leads the conference with a 1.93 ERA and an opponent batting average of .178. He is also the CCAA leader with 67 strikeouts.

Cal Poly Pomona is home against Cal State San Marcos this weekend. The four-game set begins on Friday.
