Ryon Knowles of Cal Poly Pomona had a tremendous offensive series as he was selected Baseball Player of the Week, for the week of April 3-10.
Knowles batted .571, going 8-for-14, with a double and a home run. He drove in six runs and scored five times leading the Broncos to a four-game sweep over San Francisco State.
The graduate student from Corona posted a .667 on-base percentage and a .857 slugging percentage. He also walked three times and was hit by a pitch once.
Defensively the second baseman had 15 putouts and five assists with no errors.
Knowles hit safely in each game of the series, going 1-for-4 in Friday’s opener with a walk. He then went 1-for-2 with two walks in game one of Saturday’s twinbill and was 2-for-3 and was hit by a pitch in the nightcap.
The series finale was his best game of the weekend as he went 4-for-5 with a double and a home run, coming up just shy of hitting for the cycle. Knowles drove in four runs and scored twice in the finale.
Cal Poly Pomona, now in fifth place on the CCAA standings, is now 19-14 overall and 14-9 in conference play. The Broncos travel to Stanislaus State for a four-game set this weekend.
